SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Volunteers and city officials gathered Saturday morning to clean up parts of the Jordan River, a task they say is critical to the river’s health and ecosystem.
The cleanup was held between 21st to 17th South of the Jordan river trail, which city officials say can get can get pretty heavily trashed as cleanups are not done regularly in this area.
Community members assisted with removing goatheads and other invasive weeds that grow along the banks. “Goatheads have a sharp, pricky burs under the seed and they are famous for getting stuck in bike tires and causing flat tires for commuters along the trail and recreators,” Alison Carter, Salt Lake City Public Lands told ABC4.
