‘An opportunity to be strategic’: New report weighs costs of Great Salt Lake dust control

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — What can Utah do to manage the growing risk posed by dust from the exposed lakebed of the Great Salt Lake? A new collaborative report is looking at our options.

On Tuesday, a report titled “Options and Costs for Great Salt Lake Dust Control” from University of Utah researchers and the Wilkes Center for Climate Science & Policy, commissioned by the Utah Division of Water Resources, was released.

The report is intended to work as key input for the Great Salt Lake Basin Integrated Plan, providing the Utah Department of Natural Resources, Department of Environmental Quality, and policymakers with information about the potential costs of controlling the dust and the long-term benefits of stabilizing lake levels…
