SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah! Cloud cover and rain shower chances will increase this afternoon as moisture begins moving in from the southwest, with temperatures close to average. Showers and thunderstorms are likely on the first day of fall, which is Tuesday.
Today’s forecast
Quiet conditions will continue to start Monday, with increasing moisture from the southwest into the afternoon hours. An overall mixture of clouds and sunshine will be present across the state with a closed low moving off the coast of California and into the Great Basin.
This low will continue its shift to the north and east, helping to pull in moisture and bring in chances of showers and thunderstorms. For today, expect this moisture to increase across southwest Utah, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible across St. George and Cedar City, extending as far east as Lake Powell.
The moisture will continue to spread its way northward heading into the evening and overnight hours, making its way up to the I-70 corridor and southern portions of Utah County.
Daytime highs today will warm closer to average, with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s for northern Utah, with 80s and low 90s for southern Utah. Strong storms are not expected, but we still cannot rule out gusty winds up to 40 mph and small hail in some embedded thunderstorms.
