The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holds its 196th General Conference this weekend, livestreamed in more than 80 languages from Salt Lake City

There’s something quietly remarkable about a gathering that happens twice a year, every year, and still means something each time. Not everything that repeats stays meaningful. Most things that happen on a schedule eventually go flat, worn down by their own routine. A few things resist that. They happen again and again and somehow arrive freshly each time, because the people showing up bring a different year with them.

This weekend, that gathering is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ 196th General Conference.

What’s actually happening this weekend

The conference runs Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4, in four two-hour sessions, held at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City and streamed live in more than 80 languages, according to the Church’s own Newsroom announcement. On-demand versions reach up to 98 languages afterward, through the Gospel Library app, the Media Library, YouTube and the Church’s own magazines.

Members attending in person request tickets through local ward or branch leaders in the U.S. and Canada, and through stake or district presidents internationally. Even the parking is handled with that same practical care — conference tickets double as transit passes, since there’s no parking at the Conference Center itself.
