Utah leaders break ground on Convergence Point in Draper

Gov. Spencer Cox and a roster of Utah leaders broke ground Oct. 1 on Convergence Point, a planned campus at The Point in Draper designed to put university researchers, entrepreneurs, industry executives and government officials under one roof. The project, led by the Nucleus Institute, is scheduled to open in summer 2029.

The groundbreaking drew Utah House Speaker Mike Schultz, Majority Assistant Whip Mike McKell, Utah Commissioner of Higher Education Geoffrey Landward and Nucleus Institute CEO Jefferson Moss and COO Angela Smith, along with business and community leaders from across the state. The site sits inside The Point, the 600-acre mixed-use development rising on Draper’s former state prison property since the prison’s 2022 relocation to Salt Lake City.

Convergence Point is built to be the hub of what organizers call the Utah Convergence Corridor, a network meant to connect research, talent, companies and investment from Logan to St. George and draw on all 16 of Utah’s public colleges and universities. The facility will house the Nucleus Fund alongside the institute’s MarketEdge, Nucleus Grow, ProLab and PolicyLab programs, with co-development space tied to federal and defense technology work anchored by Hill Air Force Base…
