SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Thursday, Utah! High pressure will continue to build over the southwest and Utah, which will keep conditions on the drier side through the end of the week and weekend. Temperatures will warm 5-10° above average statewide, with mid-80s by this weekend for northern Utah.
First day of October
We are starting out the month with plenty of sunshine and temperatures warming above average! High pressure will continue to strengthen over the southwest and Utah, leading to drier conditions through the end of this week and helping to bring a warming trend. Plenty of sunshine and just a few clouds will be in store statewide, with daytime highs today warming into the mid- and upper-70s across northern Utah. Expect 80s and low 90s into southern Utah.
Friday forecast
Similar conditions will be in store Friday as high pressure will continue to have a firm grip over our forecast. These conditions provide the perfect weather to go out and do some leaf peeping, with many of our higher elevation areas nearing peak or at peak colors. As we head further into October, our lower elevation areas and valley locations will begin to see some fall colors starting to pop.

Weekend outlook
Heading into this weekend, we’ll see more of the same in terms of our forecast, with sunshine and a few more clouds across Utah; otherwise, conditions will stay dry. Daytime highs will continue to warm further, with high temperatures in the mid-80s for northern Utah and low to mid-90s into southern Utah.
Most of our locations will run 5-10° even 15° above average for this time of year and flirt with a few records. We are watching the potential for a weak trough to start sliding its way off the coast of northern California and into northern Utah by Monday, which will provide some change in the weather pattern.
Looking ahead
As for this weak trough, it does not look to provide much of a punch or precipitation to the region. As it begins moving closer to northern Utah, it will bring breezy southwesterly flow, which could amplify temperatures by a few more degrees than forecasted.
As for now, the forecasted high in Salt Lake on Monday is 85°, which will get close to the record high of 87°. However, during these southwesterly flow events, temperatures can warm a few degrees more, so it is possible we could tie or even break the record. Though we’ll have to keep a close eye on this as we get closer…
