Contractor hospitalized after being shocked at prominent local copper mine

Update, 8:19 p.m.: A Rio Tinto Kennecott Smelter contractor came into contact with electricity Wednesday while performing maintenance activities.

They were transported to a hospital where they are being treated, according to a statement from the mine.

Work in the area has reportedly stopped and regulatory agencies have been notified.

“The health and safety of our people is our top priority and we will do a full investigation into what happened,” the statement read.
