WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — Authorities say a suspect was arrested Wednesday night following a shooting that left a teenage girl hospitalized.
Lt. Bill Merritt with West Valley City police said the shooting happened around 9 p.m. in a home near the intersection of Carnegie Tech Street and Westpoint Drive.

Responding officers saw the victim trying to get out of a second-story window and spoke to the suspect, who was also inside the home.
The suspect allegedly told officers he couldn’t leave, and after a time, police decided to go into the residence.
“They knew that she needed medical aid and it was paramount that they get inside,” Merritt said.
Carrying shields and other equipment, officers entered the home, and the suspect immediately surrendered. Officer took him into custody.
Police aided the victim before emergency crews brought her to an area hospital. According to Merritt, the girl is expected to be OK.
