‘Happy ending’ after cougar safely removed from West Valley City tree

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A mountain lion, located in the heart of a West Valley City neighborhood, was tranquilized and removed from a tree after residents noticed it hanging out Thursday evening.

West Valley City Fire Department says a resident named Damon noticed the large cat while talking on the phone near 4000 S and 5200 West.

“I kept staring at it when I was talking and kind of seeing the tail move. I’m like, that’s a friggin’ mountain lion,” Damon said. “I just ran out here making a phone call. I just happened to look up in the trees, and as I was talking on the phone, I was like, that doesn’t look right.”

Reported just after 5 p.m., officers and the Department of Wildlife Resources arrived at the scene to see the cougar for themselves and remove if from the area.

However, when they tranquilized the animal, it remained in the tree. Officers called the fire department to come and aid in the removal of the cat.
