Calm weather Sunday ahead of soggy workweek

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Sunday, Utah! We see a quick ridge setup Sunday giving us a break from showers throughout much of the day.

Temperatures will be fairly close to seasonal averages for many locations with increasing cloud cover throughout the afternoon and evening. The next batch of wet weather arrives late tonight into Monday morning, beginning with a warm front increasing showers in the region from the southwest. This will be the beginning of a very soggy week as storms moving through are expected to, once again, tap into subtropical air bringing several rounds of wet weather to the Beehive State.

As a moist southwest flow sets up on Monday, this will allow for a prolonged stretch of scattered valley rain and mountain snowfall. Temperatures will remain slightly above average for the Wasatch Front for the first half of the week and keep primarily rain falling in the valley. Snow levels will largely remain above 6,000 feet throughout this timeframe with heavy mountain snowfall expected. Early estimates show roughly 1-2+ feet of new snowfall are expected for the southern and northern mountain areas with the heaviest precipitation falling Tuesday and Wednesday as the trough moves through the state.
