SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — State Street has reopened in both directions after Salt Lake City Police Department closed the road — from 800 South to 900 South — to investigate a “suspicious circumstance involving a pickup,” according to a post on social media on Saturday night.
“Detectives found several jars with liquids that could have been flammable,” SLCPD wrote on social media . “Those jars have been secured.”
Brent Weisberg, a spokesperson with SLCPD, told ABC4.com that officers conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck just after 5 p.m. on Saturday.

“Officers determined that there were several jars that contained an unknown liquid,” Weisberg told ABC4.com. “While the officers were talking to the driver, he had made some statements that concerned the officers enough that they called out our Hazardous Devices Unit.”
SLCPD said members of its Hazardous Devices Unit and crews from Salt Lake City Fire were on the scene “out of abundance of caution.” After the hours-long closure, SLCPD shared an updated post saying the Hazardous Devices Unit had cleared the area to reopen.
