The Utah Chapters of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) will be holding two Day of Remembrance (DOR) Events which will be on Saturday, February 17, and Monday, February 19, 2024, in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is a time to remember the experiences of Japanese Americans who were unjustly incarcerated in camps during World War II simply because of their ethnic heritage and the racism against them.
The purpose of the DOR events is to remember the history and to educate others so that no one else will ever have to suffer such an injustice in the United States.
Saturday, February 17 at 1:30-3:00pm at the Utah Law & Justice Center (645 S 200 E). Dr. Duncan Ryuken Williams, director of the Irei Monument Project will speak and explain the Irei National Monument for the WWII Japanese American Incarceration. Sponsored by the JACL.
Monday, February 19 at 6-8pm at Gillmore Hall at Westminster University. A panel discussion on Japanese American incarceration during WWII. Panelists: Jeanette Misaka, Lily Havey, Karie Minaga-Miya, Kenzie Hirai, and Dianne Fukami. Sponsored by Westminster University.
