Florida 12yo Leo Winfrey to compete at USA Climbing Youth National Championships

Leo Winfrey, a 12-year-old from Central Florida, is set to test his nerve at the USA Climbing Youth National Championships in Salt Lake City next month. The young climber will compete in two disciplines: ropes and bouldering.

Winfrey’s journey to the national stage began just a year ago when he started participating in climbing competitions. Since then, he has become a dedicated athlete, spending extensive time at the gym honing his skills and pushing his physical limits.

“The climbs are fun,” Winfrey said on Yahoo Sports. “But being able to talk to people about how you climb, and other things in general, is funner to me than actually climbing the routes.”

Rock climbing, a sport that demands both physical agility and mental insight, challenges climbers to demonstrate strength, endurance, and balance. Winfrey will need to showcase these qualities when he faces off against other young climbers from across the country.

The championship, scheduled for July 7-14, will bring together talented youth climbers, offering a platform for them to display their climbing abilities on a national stage.
