RSL clinches playoff spot after wild 3-3 draw

SANDY, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – Real Salt Lake is officially headed back to the MLS Playoffs, but can they hold on for a top-4 seed and a home playoff game?

Two minutes after Diogo Goncalves gave RSL a 3-2 lead in the 90th minute, the Timbers tied the game up on a goal from Jonathan Rodriguez in stoppage time, as Real Salt Lake had to settle for a 3-3 draw.

RSL took a seemingly commanding 2-0 lead at the half on goals from Dominik Marczuk in the 11th minute, and Diego Luna in the 22nd.

But the Timbers got back in the game in the on goals from Antony in the 62nd minute, and Evander in the 76th to level the match at two goals a piece.

With the draw, Real Salt Lake (14-7-9) remains in second place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Colorado and seven points behind the LA Galaxy.

Real Salt Lake clinches a spot in the postseason for the fourth straight year. They will next play at Austin FC Saturday, September 28th.
