Early morning fatal crash shuts down I-15 in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — A deadly crash on southbound I-15 halted traffic into Salt Lake City early Tuesday morning, Nov. 19.

The Utah Department of Transportation reported the crash around 6 a.m. According to the UDOT Traffic Map, the crash, located near 600 South and mile marker 307, brought I-15 traffic to a stop.

Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said the crash involved a single vehicle that was heading northbound on I-15. The driver, who has not been identified, lost control of the vehicle and rolled from I-15 into the dirt median between the northbound and the southbound lanes.

In the crash, Roden said the driver was ejected from their car and landed in the southbound lanes of I-15. They were pronounced deceased on the scene.

The crash has caused a significant backup along southbound I-15 from Davis County into Salt Lake County. According to the UDOT traffic map by 6:30 a.m., the morning commute has been congested for nearly five miles, from 600 South to Rose Park past Capitol Hill.
