Former Utah and Vanderbilt quarterback Nate Johnson is currently discussing a return to Salt Lake City and meeting with the program , according to KSL’s Steve Bartle in what would be a surprising, yet welcome return home for the talented athlete.
Johnson started his career with the Utes, managing to earn snaps in 2022 and finally getting an opportunity to live up to the hype in 2023, which he sadly wasn’t able to do. During the 2023 season, Johnson threw for 499 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 235 yards and four touchdowns but was beaten out of the starting job by now-Utah State quarterback Bryson Barnes.
As a result, Johnson transferred to Vanderbilt before the start of the 2024 campaign, but he wasn’t able to gain any footing as a quarterback in Nashville either as he only threw for 12 yards on three attempts and rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on 11 attempts.
Now, back in the transfer portal, the fans clamored under his announcement post for him to come back to Utah, and it seems as if Johnson is at least open to the idea, which would see him come back not as a quarterback.
