SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) – Happy Thursday, Utah! January is starting with mild, warm temperatures, but don’t hang up your coat just yet.
After a fair amount of valley rain and mountain snow this morning, a few showers might stick around near the Utah/Idaho border into the early afternoon. After that, high pressure takes over, bringing clear skies and warm temps through Friday.
Expect Friday to feel more like early March than January, with highs about 15° above normal. Daytime highs will be in the upper 40s, low 50s along the Wasatch Front on Friday. Salt Lake International Airport could set a new record high on Friday, with the forecast showing 51° and the record sitting at 52° from 1934.
However, the calm weather doesn’t last long as another winter storm rolls in on Saturday, bringing a cold front and more rain and snow.
Mountain snow lingers into early Sunday, but snow totals are still uncertain due to some disagreement on the overall storm track and how much moisture it could bring. Either way, plan on valley rain and mountain snow on Saturday with several inches expected along the northern mountain areas.
