SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Friday, Utah! Big weather changes are on the way!
Today, temperatures are soaring to about 20° above normal, making it feel more like mid-March than early January. Salt Lake City is forecast to hit the mid 50s, which would break the record high of 52° set back in 1934. The record warmup is ahead of a storm system that will roll into the region overnight.

By early Saturday, a strong cold front will move through, bringing rain and snow, especially to northern Utah. Temperatures will drop quickly, with snow levels reaching valley floors for a while. Roads might get slick, particularly in the mountains, where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect. Mountain snow will likely stick around through Sunday morning, and temperatures will cool back down to normal. Accumulations between a dusting up to 2″ will be possible along the Wasatch Front, with 4-8″ for our central mountains, 2-6″ for the Wasatch Back and Mountain valleys, and an additional 6-12″ for our northern mountains, with some locally higher amounts for the Cottonwoods and Bear River Range. Daytime highs will only be in the 30s to near 40 for northern Utah on Saturday afternoon.
