In Search Of Utah’s Best Seafood

In the last few weeks as part of my routine on the radio, I have been reading ten second announcements from the Utah Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Coordinating Council (they really need to work on an easier name to remember). One of those announcements says, in part

Eat a healthy diet of fish, veggies and fruit to reduce your risk of dementia and keep your brain sharp.

Well, eating fish in Utah isn’t really that hard of a thing to do, since there are many places for you to go and catch fish and bring them home for dinner for the family. I have enjoyed feasting on bass that I have pulled out of Lake Powell on more than one occasion. But I will admit, fish isn’t as much of a staple in my diet as it, perhaps should be.

Freshwater VS Seafood

Freshwater fish do provide important vitamins such as B12 and D, but since we are looking at brain health, I’ve come to understand that seafood might be the better option. Regular consumption of seafood has been linked to improved cognitive function and a lower risk of age-related cognitive decline. In addition, many types of seafood, particularly fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and tuna, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which support heart health by lowering blood pressure, reducing inflammation, and decreasing the risk of heart disease…
