Elizabeth Smart responds to kidnapper’s parole violation arrest

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KUTV) — Elizabeth Smart has spoken out following the re-arrest of Wanda Barzee Mitchell, one of her kidnappers, for violating her sex offender parole.

Barzee was taken into custody on May 1 for visiting Liberty Park, a violation of her parole terms.

In a video posted by the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, Smart expressed her concerns about Barzee’s actions. “Her justification was that she was ‘commanded by the Lord’ which unfortunately is very familiar to me and is probably the most concerning thing because that’s how they justified kidnapping me,” Smart said. “I feel like I’ve been vocal about my concerns since Barzee’s initial release, and this incident confirms exactly why.”…
