SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Local leaders and Gov. Spencer Cox urged “No Kings” demonstrators to be peaceful this weekend, but if protests devolve into violence or vandalism–and if the 2020 Salt Lake City riots are an indication–some protesters could face time in prison.
State and federal charges were filed against demonstrators five years ago linked to destruction outside Salt Lake City’s Main Library and at the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.
In one case, a man named Jackson Patton was sentenced to two years in federal prison. Prosecutors said he had a role in burning a police car which demonstrators had flipped onto the street…
