Amid the clamor of dissent and demand that colored the downtown streets, Salt Lake City Police reported an incident that punctuated a large demonstration with violence. In a social media post, the Salt Lake City Police Department declared, “Tonight, our officers arrested one man following an assault that occurred during a large demonstration in downtown.”
According to the same post, the officers were on scene not just to ensure the peace, but also to provide traffic control and to help make sure the rights of demonstrators to assemble peacefully and lawfully were protected.
