Retired FBI agent raises questions about armed ‘peacekeepers’ at deadly protest shooting

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A retired FBI agent with extensive experience in tactical training raised questions about “peacekeepers” providing security in light of the deadly shooting at Salt Lake’s “No Kings” protest.

Safety volunteers said they prevented a mass shooting. Their use of firearms, however, sparked a debate about training and public safety.

On Monday, the Salt Lake City Police Department clarified in a press release that the term “peacekeeper” came from a man who self-described himself as such during an interview. The press release further explained that in previous news conferences, Chief Brian Redd had simply called them “individuals wearing high-profile neon vests.”…
