One dead after falling 700 feet in rock slide near Bell’s Canyon

SANDY, Utah (ABC4) — One person was killed after falling 700 feet to their death in Saturday morning’s rock slide, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Calls came in around 8:45 a.m. regarding the slide, according to Det. Arlan Bennett, Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses on scene said one person was hiking near Pfeifferhorn — the eighth highest peak in the Wasatch Range — when they were caught in the slide.

The individual — a 49-year-old male — has been confirmed deceased. Search and rescue crews are currently recovering his body. A doctor who happened to be hiking in the area was the first to arrive and render aid. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the individual was pronounced dead on scene…
