SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Thousands of people gathered for a joint funeral service in Lesotho to honor the 15 people killed in a car crash in June.
Ten members of the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were traveling in a minibus to a church activity in the African country when they were involved in a multi-vehicle crash on June 21.
The crash killed 15 people and injured at least a dozen others, according to church officials. Ten of the deceased were leaders and young women of the local congregation, including the branch president and his wife, and the young women president and her counselor. The young women killed ranged from 12 to 16 years of age.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, and a joint funeral service took place Saturday, July 19, with about 3,000 attendees. Individual graveside services took place afterward, according to the families’ desires…
