A Midvale man is facing charges of second-degree manslaughter following a deadly assault on his girlfriend, who succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital. According to KSLTV, Leituono Falaniko, 31, was apprehended by the police after officers responded to a welfare check near Hillcrest High School and discovered a concerning situation involving a dark blue sedan.
The initial welfare check call, as ABC4 News describes, came after a witness observed a violent encounter between Falaniko and the victim, where it appeared she was attempting to escape him after he repeatedly punched her in the face with a closed fist, the situation escalated when he forced her into the passenger seat and drove away it is uncertain exactly what transpired after, but the victim later arrived at the hospital with injuries consistent with an assault.
Sadly, the assault had fatal consequences; while at the hospital, the victim experienced chest pains and breathing difficulty before collapsing, her death was pronounced by hospital staff shortly after, during her time at the hospital she disclosed to her family that Falaniko had punched her multiple times during an argument, these details tragic insights into her final moments…
