Monroe Canyon Fire is so intense it’s creating its own weather system

SALT LAKE CITY – Right now, the Monroe Canyon Fire burning in south-central Utah is so big and powerful it’s creating its own weather system.

The National Weather Service confirmed the heat and smoke are forming fire clouds, which can create thunderstorms, lightning and even fire tornadoes.

It’s a big contributor in the fight against the flames. The National Weather Service Office in Salt Lake City has a team there on the ground, and told KSL TV that when the fire is creating its own weather, there’s no telling where it will go or what it will do – at times, forcing firefighters to retreat, losing the daily battle against the flames…
