Main St. businesses tell customers they’re open after Monday night fire

SALT LAKE CITY — A section of Main St. in Salt Lake City was taped off Wednesday to keep people away from the businesses damaged by a large fire earlier in the week. However, the owners of nearby businesses that are still standing said they hope all of the destruction doesn’t keep people away.

Utah Book & Magazine has called 327 Main St. home for nearly 40 years. Monday night’s fire nearly threatened its existence. Peter Marshall, who owns Utah Book & Magazine, watched in horror as firefighters disappeared into the buildings, including his own.

“I thought I’d get here and it’d be burnt to the ground,” Marshall said…
