Hit-and-miss thunderstorms expected to pop up across Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Monsoon moisture is still pouring into the state for the rest of the weekend. As we mix this tropical moisture with intense August sunshine, hit-and-miss thunderstorms will develop Sunday afternoon and evening across the entire state.

Utah may even start Sunday morning in Salt Lake City with overcast conditions and some light rain.

Some of the afternoon thunderstorms could produce pockets of heavy rainfall in central and southern Utah, so flash flooding is probable in prone areas later today. That means hikers will want to stay out of the slot canyons and dry wash areas today.

Temperatures will remain hot, but not as hot as Saturday. Today’s highs in the Wasatch Front will hit the low-90s, while yesterday SLC hit the upper-90s.

As monsoon moisture continues to move in, thunderstorms will continue to be a possibility every day as we head into the work week…
