WSU Women’s Volleyball wrapped up their stand at the Utah Classic today by playing the University of Utah. Despite losing in straight sets, they put up a tough fight and had several opportunities to win some sets.
The first set began with the Cougs going on a 4-0 run. They would extend their lead to seven, going up 12-5 after outside hitter Melina Christodoulou recorded four kills, on top of freshman Eliana Ti’a’s two kills. Utah State then turned it on by going on a 7-3 run, with kills from outside hitters Neea-Maria Joki and Kamryn Gibadlo, and a big-time block by opposite hitter Allie Grossenbach. The Cougs and Utes went on to trade points, mainly from service errors, until Lucie Blažková had a block and kill on back-to-back points to extend WSU’s lead to 21-17.
Just when it appeared the Cougs might pull off an upset in the first set, Utes’ middle blocker Emrie Moea’i stepped up by hitting three consecutive kills in a 8-1 run that led Utah to win the first set 25-22…
