SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 13, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A 38-year-old man was arrested Thursday for an alleged murder and robbery investigators believe he committed in 2016.
Casteil Franklin Hamlett was arrested for investigation of alleged:
- Murder, a first-degree felony
- Aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony
- Obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony
The body of Chandler Cooper, the 22-year-old victim, was found by hikers on Feb. 11, 2016, on a trail in the area of Saltair. Cooper had been shot once in the right side of his face and once in the left side of his chest, according to Hamlett’s arrest document.
The document says that, during the investigation, detectives learned that Cooper, Hamlett and a person identified in court documents as G.P. had planned to rob a local drug dealer they knew. The drug dealer, identified in court documents as J.M., had won $14,000 betting on the Superbowl in Wendover on Feb. 7, 2016, and was planning to celebrate with a party at his residence on Feb. 9, after he returned to Salt Lake City…
