SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has declined to file criminal charges against the officer who used deadly force against the accused shooter at WestFest on June 15.
“After conducting an Officer Involved Critical Incident (OICI) review, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has declined to file criminal charges for the June 15, 2025, use of deadly force by a West Valley City Police Department officer against Matthiaz Cantre Lauti Ioane-Register,” the DA’s office said in a release Friday.
Roxeanna Vainuku with the West Valley City Police Department said several officers witnessed the WestFest shooting, and one officer with the WVCPD shot at the suspect, then 16-year-old Ioane-Register. The shot reportedly did not hit the suspect…
