Salt Lake City building burns for second time in five days; investigators on scene

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 10, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City building that caught fire less than a week ago burned again Friday night, drawing a swift response from fire crews who brought the blaze under control within minutes.

Salt Lake City Fire Department’s Bob Silverthorne, public information officer and incident commander at the scene, told Gephardt Daily that crews were dispatched to 980 South 700 West after reports of smoke and flames coming from the roof on the east side of the structure.

“Initially, our crews that arrived found smoke and flames from the roof of this particular end of the building,” Silverthorne said. “They initiated an attack from the exterior, mostly with master streams, just so we could get a good angle on it. Right now, we’ve got the fire under control and we’re just monitoring for flare-ups or hot spots.”…
