SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 29, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Attorneys for the family of Arthur “Afa” Ah Loo on Wednesday announced their intent to file a wrongful death lawsuit in the wake of the fatal June 14 accidental shooting which claimed Ah Loo’s life during the “No Kings” march in downtown Salt Lake City.
An investigation by the Salt Lake City Police Department determined Ah Loo was shot by an armed “peacekeeper” volunteer working for march organizers. The peacekeeper, described as a military veteran, reportedly told police he opened fire after seeing a man carrying an AR-15-style rifle, who raised the weapon while moving toward demonstrators as they marched up State Street.
The man carrying the rifle, identified as Arturo Gamboa, 24, was taken into custody the day of the shooting and spent nearly a week behind bars facing a possible first-degree murder charge. Investigators ultimately determined Gamboa, who was wounded by the gunfire, had not fired a shot, nor did he appear to raise the rifle in a video recording that captured the shooting.
