UDOT crews gear up for long nights as winter storms slam the canyons

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Winter storms are rolling in just as some ski resorts in the canyons are opening up. UDOT says if you’re driving a car without the proper equipment, you’ll be turned around.

UDOT says the traction law has been in effect all day. Winter weather means long hours and busy roads, especially for UDOT crews working out of the Cottonwood Maintenance Station.

Mountain View Corridor set to open four months early

“These are our plow trucks we use to clear the highways; they’ve got a head plow on them and the salt in the back,” Shawn Wright said. For the Cottonwood Canyons, Wright says they have ten plows keeping the roads clear.

Right now, two plows are running up each canyon over the weekend…
