SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — After a hearing with more than three hours of public comment, the Salt Lake County Council voted to raise property taxes by roughly 14% for 2026.
At the County Council meeting Tuesday night, the council voted 8-1 to approve the county’s budget for 2026, after an extended period of public comment with more than 90 people speaking. The council said that the associated property tax increase will be around 14%, significantly lower than the originally proposed increase of over 19%.
The main concerns raised by the public during the meeting were the impact of this increase on people with fixed incomes and whether the new budget really made all possible cuts to county government spending.
