Salt Lake City Council Approves Ballpark Redevelopment, Honors Outgoing District 5 Representative, and Updates Residents on Safety and Housing Initiatives

On December 9, 2025, the Salt Lake City Council met to discuss community issues and recognize outgoing Council Member Darin Mano. Mano represented District 5 for nearly six years. The Council acknowledged his leadership and service to the city.

During the meeting, the Council approved the Ballpark NEXT Community Design Plan for the Smith’s Ballpark site. Acting as the Community Reinvestment Agency Board, the Council supported a plan to redevelop the ballpark and its parking lot. The plan includes more green space, safer streets, mixed-use development, and recognition of the neighborhood’s history. Public input and a focus on health guided the plan.

The Council also updated the RMF-35 and RMF-45 Multi-Family Zoning Districts. These changes are intended to support more housing options and preserve existing units to meet the city’s housing needs…
