South Salt Lake officer calls situation in department ‘way worse than anybody knows’

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (KUTV) — A newly released audit detailing historically low morale inside the South Salt Lake Police Department and a warning from staff that officers may quit if changes aren’t made is raising questions about leadership and what comes next.

Those concerns escalated following an emotional city council meeting where numerous officers and staff pleaded for change.

On Thursday, an officer told KUTV, asking not to be identified on camera, that the situation inside the department “is way worse than anybody knows.”…
