UTA gets festive by decorating Ensign Peak radio site with 3,000 feet of Christmas lights

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — If you look up towards Ensign Peak this week, you might be surprised to see a Christmas light display shining down over the Salt Lake Valley.

Utah Transit Authority (UTA) decided to embrace the holiday spirit by stringing nearly 3,000 feet of Christmas lights onto the tower at their Ensign Peak radio site.

According to a social media post from UTA, the Ensign Peak radio site is used to communicate with FrontRunner, TRAX, and all UTA buses. It allows them to communicate vehicle maintenance, operations, and control rooms.

“Everybody that needs to communicate here at UTA, can,” said UTA Radio Communications Engineering Tech, Russel Shelley.

Shelley said that there are radios inside of the site that combine to transmit signals out to all of the UTA radios. These towers play a vital role in keeping radio communications running smoothly across the entire UTA system, according to UTA…
