Utah plans major transportation upgrades in 2026 to address rapid growth

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KUTV) — With a fast-growing state, UDOT and UTA are keeping their eyes on future projects to adjust for the changes.

While officials are researching where changes are most needed, some projects are further along in the process with plans to begin construction in 2026.

Davis County

In Davis County, West Davis Highway Construction is expected to begin in Spring of 2026. UDOT plans to have this project completed in 2028.

Salt Lake County

UDOT plans to extend U-111 from South Jordan Parkway to Herriman Boulevard in Salt Lake County. The hope is that this road will accommodate current and future growth and improve mobility.

Utah County

UDOT plans for a 2100 North Freeway Project which officials say will improve transportation in Lehi. It will also improve the east/west connection from I-15 to Mountain View Corridor. Further information indicates that the project will connect Redwood Road and I-15 with a 2.8-mile freeway segment. Construction is expected to start early 2026.

UDOT is also designing improvements to the U.S. Route 89 and U.S. Route 6 intersection. The goal is to improve safety and increase traffic flow capacity. Construction is planned for Spring 2026 to Winter 2027.

UTA
