‘Look at the human side’: Utahn who served mission in Venezuela discusses U.S. intervention

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A Utah man who lived in Venezuela during his religious mission and has a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting Venezuelans discussed his experiences in the country and how recent U.S. intervention has impacted those he works with.

On Saturday morning, the United States captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who are facing narco-terrorism charges in the United States. U.S. President Donald J. Trump stated that the United States would “run” Venezuela until a transition of power could be made.

Notably, the U.S. intervention has led to a wide variety of reactions from Venezuelans in Utah and throughout the globe. Some are concerned that there has not been enough of a regime change or that it could threaten their asylum status.
