Millcreek resident sentenced after impersonating dead mother for three years

MILLCREEK, Utah (ABC4) — A Millcreek resident was sentenced on Tuesday after she fraudulently obtained social security benefits by impersonating her dead mother for several years.

Muna Abdi, 36, was sentenced today to twelve months on probation and to pay $25,638.61 in restitution. On Sept. 29, 2025, Abdi pleaded guilty to the conversion of government funds.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office in the District of Utah, Abdi’s mother died in November 2021. However, Abdi impersonated her deceased mother. The Social Security Administration (SSA) continued disbursing funds to Abdi’s mother’s Social Security account until about June 30, 2024…
