SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — The family of Sione Vatuvei, the 38-year-old father who was fatally shot outside of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, spoke out publicly for the first time since Wednesday night’s shooting. They described a smart and loving man who was on the path to turning his life around.
“I think everyone is trying to process it. We are all still in shock,” said Masea, Vatuvei’s older sister. “He is our only brother. He was our whole world.”
Vatuvei was shot and killed after attending a funeral on Wednesday evening. Eight people in total were shot, two fatally. Five other people are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police do not have anyone in custody and have not released new details or identified suspects.
