PARK CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Thousands of artifacts, including a more than 150-year-old bottle of alcohol, were recently discovered during an excavation of Utah’s historical ghost town of Alta.
During fall 2025, the State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) along with the Forest Service excavated a portion of the historic “mining boomtown,” right underneath the tow line by the Snow Pine Lodge.
According to Ian Wright, Utah Public Archaeologist and lead on the project, 50 public volunteers aided in the excavation, resulting in the discovery of artifacts from a pipeline project that once trenched through a portion of the town…
