Preservation Utah encourages residents to voice thoughts on preserving Cottonwood Paper Mill

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (ABC4) — An iconic building in Cottonwood Heights, dating back to the 1800s, is facing potential demolition. Preservation Utah is urging community members to speak out about the building’s future during a meeting next Wednesday.

The Old Mill, once bustling with activity, may soon become a relic of the past as plans to replace it with new housing developments emerge. According to local resident concerns aired in the summer of 2024, the area has been abuzz with speculation about the mill’s fate.

Brandy Strand, Executive Director of Preservation Utah, expressed her concerns about the building’s future, stating, “It doesn’t have to end in demo, but sometimes it does.”

She emphasized the emotional and historical significance of the building, noting, “One of the things that I love hearing though is when people tell me how people got married there. How their great grandparents got married there and they have photos of it. I’m always humbled.”…
