SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — On Friday, activists protested outside of a warehouse that is rumored to be used as a new detention center for ICE, and the Salt Lake City mayor sent a letter to the owners of that warehouse, telling them that it would violate city code if it were used in that way.
Protestors gathered on public sidewalks outside of the warehouse located near 1000 N 6880 West, with many of them carrying signs and others carrying American and Utah flags. One sign read, “No ICE detention camp, not now, not ever.” Another read “ICE is the real terrorist.” Others were simpler, reading “ICE out” or “abolish ICE.”

A large group of protestors also carried signs of individual letters to create a display that spelled out “ICE out of Utah, no concentration camps.”
There have been ongoing rumors that an ICE detention center would be coming to Utah for months now, but ICE itself has never confirmed those rumors. ICE also has not responded to ABC4’s request for comment on whether they have any plans for this particular warehouse…
