Our first stop brings us to Tres Hombres Mexican Grill and Cantina in Millcreek, a beloved local restaurant that has been serving the Millcreek and Salt Lake City communities with authentic Mexican cuisine for over 40 years. Since 1984, Tres Hombres has been serving authentic Mexican cuisine shaped by friendship, tradition, and decades of dedication. Founded by Don Bostrom and his partners, the restaurant found its permanent home in 1998, when it relocated and was remodeled into a colorful, lively space designed to make you feel as though you’ve crossed the border into Mexico.
An Atmosphere That Feels Like a Getaway
The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and full of energy. The kitchen tells its own story, blending coastal Mexican flavors, California influences, Tex-Mex, and Sonoran traditions. Ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible, with select seasonal items coming from California or Mexico to ensure quality and authenticity.
Everything is made fresh, in-house, daily. Some dishes require extra patience and love, like the pozole, warm and comforting, perfect for the wintertime and available only on weekends, along with guest favorites like the Oaxacan enchiladas, a true melt-in-your-mouth experience featuring sweet pork, creamy Mexican fresca, and tangy queso fresco. The Zacatecas, stuffed with zesty green chiles and onions, perfectly balance the briny richness of the fresh crab and shrimp, reminiscent of fresh fish tacos along the California coast.

Tres Hombres is also home to one of the largest tequila bars in Utah, featuring over 70 tequilas and more than 20 handcrafted margaritas. Their best-selling blood orange margarita is a fan favorite, but if blood orange isn’t your vibe, there’s no shortage of options to match every marg mood. From classic and spicy margaritas to creative cocktails, the drink menu offers something for everyone.
