Charging documents reveal new details about LDS church shooting after man charged with obstruction of justice

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The man who was arrested following the fatal shooting outside of an LDS church on Redwood Road has been officially charged with obstruction of justice and charging documents have revealed new information about the shooting.

Ryan Daniel Toutai, 32, was charged with one count of obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony.

On Jan. 7, police responded to a shooting at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse on Redwood Road, where a funeral was taking place. Multiple people were injured, and two died as a result of their injuries.

A week later, on Jan. 14, Toutai was arrested. According to charging documents, after the shooting, police found him in the parking lot of the church, where he was taken into custody after allegedly “physically interfering with first responders who were securing and active crime scene and conducting life saving measures to the shooting victims.”…
