Infant dies in Taylorsville daycare amid 25% increase in statewide injuries at childcare centers

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — An infant passed away at a family-run daycare last year. The death comes amid a jump in injury incidents across the state.

The Utah Department of Health and Human Services reported 611 incidents occurred at childcare facilities in 2025. All but one were non-fatal. Officials spoke with ABC4.com about the fatal incident.

Records obtained by ABC4.com show that after an incident in May 2025, Daycare Papa Ramon LLC in Taylorsville was cited for noncompliance after staff reportedly placed an infant on their stomach to sleep. The child was “later found unresponsive.”

A DHHS spokesperson confirmed the child passed away. However, health officials could not comment on the child’s cause of death…
