Law enforcement urges parents to watch for gang involvement

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Gang activity involving juveniles is becoming a growing public safety concern in Utah, according to law enforcement officials.

The Utah Department of Public Safety estimated there were about 1,500 documented gang members statewide on Monday, though authorities believe the true number could be as high as 4,500, including juveniles.

That concern grew as law enforcement warned of a troubling rise in teenagers involved in gang-related gun violence.
